Thanksgiving isn’t far off and one of the things we see most often after Thanksgiving are a lot of pets with gastric problems caused by Thanksgiving foods. Today we want to share a few reasons why you should NOT feed your pet table scraps this Thanksgiving!
This Thanksgiving don’t let your pet wind up in our clinic as the result of eating Thanksgiving table scraps! There are a number of ways that Thanksgiving tables craps can hurt your pet, take a look at some of them below.
-Thanksgiving foods contribute to pancreatitis in our pets. Pancreatitis is the inflammation of the pancreas and it can present with many signs including diarrhea, disinterest in food, panting and stomach tenderness.
– People foods in general tend to be high in sugar which leads to increased plaque on your dog’s teeth which contributes to tooth decay and tooth loss.
– People foods are high in calories and contribute to obesity in our pets.
– A number of the foods that we eat over Thanksgiving are toxic to our pets and can cause serious illness or even death.
So what should you feed your pet this Thanksgiving? Give them their usual meal and even a treat or two but don’t feed them people food if you want your pet to stay healthy!
