Is Raleigh dog friendly?
Quite often here at Leesville Animal Hospital, we have new clients join our family and when they come in for their first visit, they ask us whether Raleigh is a dog friendly city.
Well, today we want to take a moment to tell you just how dog friendly our state is!
Is Raleigh Dog Friendly? Information On Our Great Home State!
So, you’ve just moved to Raleigh or you’re planning a move here and one of the major “must-haves” on your list of criteria is that the area you move to is dog friendly. Well, let us tell you – Raleigh is a great place to be!
The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine
One of the biggest elements that plays into our huge pet loving community here in Raleigh, NC is The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine! In fact, our very own Dr. Tull earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine and our clinic is located just a few minutes away which is why we often consult with them and recommend special needs patients to their facilities!
Having The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine just around the corner means that our flourishing city attracts plenty of animal-loving students as well as houses many great veterinary program graduates. Many of these people go on to contribute to the dog-friendly nature of Raleigh by joining fundraising efforts for local animal charities, establishing fabulous small businesses that cater to and include our four-legged friends, and generally accepting our pets as part of the community!
Oakwood Dog Park
There are a few local dog parks in and around Raleigh, but one of our friendliest locations is Oakwood Dog Park on 910 Brookside Drive. As veterinarians, we often worry about dogs that play in dog parks because their owners aren’t always as vigilant as they should be and some are just plain irresponsible and see a dog park as an opportunity to allow their unvaccinated, unsocialized dogs to run free. This isn’t the case with Oakwood! As one of the highest rated local dog parks by dog owners in the Triangle, Oakwood is frequented regularly by responsible, caring, and friendly pet parents. Is Raleigh dog friendly? Visit this park with your dog just once and you’ll have the answer to your question!
One of the reasons that we chose Raleigh as the home to Leesville Animal Hospital is because it has always been a city that embraces pets and their owners. More recently, this acceptance has been taken to a whole new level with an explosion of dog-centric businesses! We are fortunate enough to have plenty of major pet retail stores locally, but we are even more fortunate to have access to countless small boutique stores that offer unique products.
Within close vicinity of our North Raleigh animal hospital we have more than a few of these businesses including:
- Pet People – A small pet supply store that specializes in natural pet food and treats.
- Unleashed the Dog & Cat Store -A boutique-style shop that has a handful of locations throughout the city and who specialize in unique pet foods, treats, and toys.
- The Urban Chicken – A local pet supply store that every animal lover should visit because they offer unique food, treats, and products for every animal you can imagine!
We would also be remiss if we didn’t mention the canine bakeries! We have so many incredible canine bakeries that bake fresh treats daily. Once you see the list, you won’t have to ask “is Raleigh dog friendly?” anymore!
Another benefit of being the home to The NC State College of Veterinary Medicine is that we have many state-of-the-art veterinary services right here in the Triangle. In fact, right here in our very own Raleigh animal hospital, we offer hydrotherapy for dogs – a service that is incredibly beneficial but so hard to locate in other areas.
Being right in the middle of North Raleigh, our clinic is also fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of relationships with other veterinary service providers so that we can ensure that all of our clients get the best treatment options available.
