Dr. Amy Neligon was born and raised in the small town of Wethersfield, Connecticut. From a young age, her love of animals was clearly obvious. Not one to settle for just cats and dogs, Dr. Neligon grew up surrounding herself with guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, turtles, crayfish, snakes, and fish as well!
Dr. Neligon earned her BS degree in marine and freshwater biology from the University of New Hampshire in 1997. She would then go on to earn her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University in 2004.
A year after earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Neligon joined Leesville Animal Hospital in 2005. As a full time veterinarian, Dr. Neligon considers her patients to be family and enjoys a special relationship with each and every one of them. When she’s not focused on general care, Dr. Neligon enjoys working in the veterinary fields of internal medicine, surgery, dermatology and behavioral science.
As the primary caretaker for the Durham Highway Fire-dog Angus, Dr. Neligon has been named an honorary member of the fire department. Additionally, Dr. Neligon is a current member of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Neligon is married to her high school sweetheart, Jeffrey Neligon. When she is not serving as a chauffeur, chef, and maid to their three children, Dr Neligon enjoys gardening, home renovations, reading, and relaxing with a cup of coffee! The family currently shares their home with a lilac point Siamese cat named Willow and hope to add to their fur-family in the near future.
