Choosing a Raleigh NC dog boarding facility is difficult when you have unanswered questions about boarding in general. That’s why today we’re going to answer as many of your questions as possible.
Raleigh NC Dog Boarding Facility Answers Your Boarding Questions
Q: What vaccinations does my pet have to have before boarding?
A: When you board your pet, they need to be up to date on all vaccinations. This is for your pet’s protection as well as for the protection of other pets in the boarding facility.
Many common illnesses for our pets are “social”, meaning that they spread easily when groups of animals come together. Think of this like the common cold in people. All it takes is one person with a cold to sneeze while in the company of other humans and that cold virus can spread like wildfire.
Q: If every other dog or cat in boarding is vaccinated, why does it matter if mine is vaccinated or not when they stay at your Raleigh NC dog boarding facility?
A: If everyone thought this way, yours wouldn’t be the only pet that lacked vaccinations. That’s not the only problem, though. Consider these problems:
- When your pet isn’t vaccinated, they can still get sick from an illness. Other animals being vaccinated does not prevent your pet from being exposed to bacteria, viruses, and other factors that could cause illness.
- Failing to vaccinate your pet against rabies is not only dangerous to your pet and other animals, but it is also dangerous to people. Not to mention that it’s against the law not to vaccinate for rabies!
- Not vaccinating your pet doesn’t just leave them susceptible to that disease, but if your pet does get ill, there is a chance that they can suffer from long-lasting health consequences of that illness.
Keeping your pet current on their vaccinations is about more than just safe boarding for everyone, it’s about providing your pet with the necessary care for a healthy life.
Q: How far in advance do I have to book my pet in for boarding?
A: There is no right answer to this question. We always tell our clients to book as far in advance as they can so that they have a better chance of reserving a place in our boarding facility. All boarding facilities have limited boarding space and this space does fill up quite quickly – particularly when booking for a major holiday like Thanksgiving, Christmas, or July 4th.
Q: What happens if my pet needs regular medication? Can they still board?
A: The answer to this question depends on the boarding facility you are considering. Most facilities will make accommodations to make sure that your pet gets their medications as needed, but you should always check that this is a service that is available before booking. It’s also important to be aware that this service may add a small charge to your final boarding bill because it may require special staffing arrangements to be made.
Q: My pet has a special diet, do they have to eat “kennel food” while they are boarding?
A: Again, the answer to this question depends on the practices of the boarding facility that you are considering. The answer also depends on the type of diet that your pet is eating and whether the facility can accommodate that diet. For example, if you feed your dog a particular type of kibble or canned food and can provide that food to the facility when you bring your dog for boarding, most boarding facilities will be able to accommodate you. If, however, you feed your dog a raw diet, it may be more challenging to find a boarding facility that can accommodate you, but it never hurts to ask!
Q: Won’t my pet get bored or miss me while they’re in boarding?
